1st stop for the day – Nanjing Massacre Memorial
This place commemorated the people who died at the hands of the Japanese during world war 2. quite a sad and solemn place … and you can tell the chinese feelings towards the japanese remain bitter still!
Yu Hua Tai (Rain Flower Stage) 雨花å°
Can’t exactly remember what else we did here except look at boring jade and cat’s eye gems … then I tried to bargain for a cheaper stick of ice cream which the person refuse to give, so ended up not eating ice cream at all …
Under the guo min dang rule, this was the massacre site for countless communists and other patriots. After the communists took over, this place became China’s largest martyr mausoleum.
Visit to the Nanjing Old City Gates .. Zhong Hua Men ä¸åŽä»¬
This was the place where the Japanese first entered the city when Nanjing fell during the war.
Final destination of the tour – Presidential Palace
The place where Sun Yat Sen and his fellow party members worked.
After that, the tour was officially over … a bunch of us stopped at Nanjing’s shopping district while another bunch of us went on to visit Nanjing University ourselves.
After admiring the school … it seems that schools in China have a more educational feel … the environment is more suitable for studying than NUS anytime … oh well … NUs is still a good school in her own way … just that it would have been nice to study in an environment with alot of greenery, alot of nice and old looking buildings …
We went on in search of food and found a food street … within 20 metres, there were so many stalls and we tried almost every stall, buying and sharing all the food … we really had a cheap and good meal … lucky no one got stomach upset after that meal haha …
Finally, we were on our way back to Shanghai … The train ride was interesting as usual … we were the loudest bunch of people on the train and alot of people even laughed at what ever we were laughing … we definitely are “childish” old people. The train ride was split into 2 parts because we could not get a through ticket to shanghai. we had to change seats on the train … go to another carriage of the train at wuxi … the short little time frame for the transfer was hectic … we all made our mini 200 m dash and made it just in time for the train to leave …
Back in Shanghai … and life goes on …
Hope you enjoyed this running commentary …
