Melbourne (Warrock Cattle Farm, Philip Island and Penguins) :: Day 3

Once again an early morning, but not so early today, at 9 am, we were picked up by a Grey Line coach (instead of the usual APT). I think they are collaborate amongst the 3 tour companies.

1st stop was to go to the Yarra Valley and Puffing Billy to pick up and drop off some people. After which, we then went to Warrock Cattle Farm which was enroute to Philip Island.

We arrived at the Cattle Farm at about 12 pm and had a hearty lunch, which my mum enjoyed very much. It was grilled chicken and/or beef. The beef was very tender, almost tasting like ham to me.

After lunch, we sat in this little trailer and went around with our guide to different parts of the farm to see different activities of the farm, such as feeding the calfs, feeding the lambs, milking the cow, observing the sheep dogs round up the sheep, learning how to crack the whip and watching the guide shear a sheep. Finally, I went to feed the kangaroos and sheep.

It was an interesting experience, quite sad though because this is a reminisce of the good old days when wool was very much in demand. Now wool cost about $5 a kilogram and competes with synthetic wool and so the demand has dropped. The farm has since catered towards tourists to supplement their income.

After the farm, we were picked up by our APT couch and had the same guide, Adrian, for the Philip Island part of the tour. I fell asleep too often in the coach to listen to much of his stories, which were very informative, indeed.

We visited Warabee bay and then the Koala Conservation Centre. There were nice fat koalas sitting on the trees.

Next was the fur seal area, where I did not see any fur seals.

Finally the penguin parade. It was COLD! Did not take any pictures, as was the regulations. They did not want to startle the little penguins. The penguins were so little and cute. 13 cm tall only.
Dinner at a local fish and chips eatery. This was so much better than the one I had the day before.

Finally, at 11.30 pm we reached our Hotel, and my mum is very happy and satisfied with her new upgraded room. She have since washed her hair and blown dry her hair.

Our upgraded Twin Double Deluxe room

Tomorrow is another long and early day and I shall go to bed.
